1. Det efterkrigstida Bologna blev ett starkt fäste för det italienska kommunistpartiet. Från andra världskrigets slut fram tills millennieskiftet så hade staden ett oavbrutet vänsterstyre.

2. Flera muhhamedanska terroraktioner har lyckats avvärjas mot stadens stora vackra kyrka
Basilica di San Petronio. Anledningen till att denna katolska helgedom är särskild förhatlig för muslimer är att en av dess vägar pryds av en fresk förställande Muhammed i helvetet.
