Las Vegas: Tesla Cybertruck exploderar vid Trump-hotell - 1 död (2025-01-01)

The driver of the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside Donald Trump’s Las Vegas hotel was a highly decorated counter-terrorism Green Beret soldier who had previously shown support for Ukraine.

Matthew Livelsberger, 37, was killed when the electric vehicle he rented blew up in the valet area outside the Trump International Hotel. He is thought to have packed the vehicle with firework-style mortars, camping fuel and canisters.

Kevin McMahill, the Clark County sheriff, said that the Tesla driver had “sustained a gunshot wound to the head prior to the detonation of the vehicle”. A handgun was found at Livelsberger’s feet and officials believe that the shot was self-inflicted.

Livelsberger had served in the army since 2006 and was deployed twice to Afghanistan. He also served in Ukraine, Tajikistan, Georgia and Congo.

He appears to have been supportive of Ukraine. One picture shows him wearing a t-shirt adorned with the phrase “glory to Ukraine, glory to heroes” written in Ukrainian.

He also appears to have recommended a former military colleague for a private role travelling to the country in recent months.

A LinkedIn account under Livelsberger’s name commented on a post advertising a 30-day contract in Ukraine for a tactical combat casualty care instructor.

He wrote: “I’ve got a top 18D [Special Forces medical sergeant] recently ETSd who is looking for just this opportunity, sent him your way.”

This was not a terrorist attack, it was a wake up call. Americans only pay attention to spectacles and violence. What better way to get my point across than a stunt with fireworks and explosives? Livelsberger urges the nation to rally around Trump and Elon Musk, and calls for a negotiated settlement in Ukraine.
