Will it work? To crank out the mass mobilization of one repressive apparatus is not enough. It is necessary that people, at least in a significant part, be motivated by a sincere patriotic feeling. And what we don't have, we don't have. During the six months of television exposure, it was possible, perhaps, to form among some of the public a culture of "cheering for ours" with popcorn in front of the TV - as was previously the case with Georgia, Syria, etc. Yes, and, judging by sociology, this affected the demographic group that is not subject to mobilization due to age, but in the one that is subject, the mood is different. Every nation, when it goes to war, is guided by some idea. This is either the export of their "correct" values (for example, the values of the French Revolution), or the national future (sorry, "living space"), or protection from enemy encroachments. Russia today does not have such an idea - and it is not clear what else propaganda can do to sell the public the idea of mobilization, despite the fact that for years it has been selling depoliticization and sports TV wars.
This, however, does not mean that tomorrow we will see an explosion of spontaneous discontent. Surely, the Kremlin understands the risks and therefore the mobilization will indeed be "partial" - they will send small groups of the population into the furnace, while other groups are trembling, guided by our Russian idea "you die today, and I tomorrow. " However, it is easy to see that such an approach contradicts the main goal - victory over the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Mobilization in small portions will not allow the formation of a critical mass at the front that can stop the evil Ukrainians with Western weapons. I assume that this is how this mobilization will go: they will throw Russian bones under the wheels of the Ukrainian military machine - the machine will skid, slow down, but not stop.
