Trichocereus Pachanoi - San Pedro
Indigenous names - Wachuma, Matucana, Aguacolla, Achuma, Huachuma Cimora, and San Pedro (so named as the apostle Pedro holds the keys of Heaven)
Taxonomy - Trichocerus, Cactaceae
Comments - Trichocereus Pachanoi, a multi-stemmed columnar fast- growing cactus with large nightime flowers that grows up to 20 feet tall by 6 feet spread, found in the mountains of Ecuador and Peru. T.Pachanoi is rich in cactophagic antiviral and antifungal repellants and ß-phenethylamines.
Trichocereus Pachanoi and its high altitude cousin Trichocereus Peruvianus has at least 3 millenia of medicinal and shamanic use, indicated in the ceramics, temples and traditional ceremonies of the Andean Chabine, the north coast Mochica culture, and the Tiahuanuco culture of Lake Titicaca.
