He is not dead. His name is Mike Parsons and this was at Jaws and not Cortez Bank like many think. I was finally able to talk to a representative at Billabong about it. He continues to surf big waves and broke his own record by riding an 80-90 foot wave at Cortez bank (this is not it).

Also, it's fake because you can't hear the helicopter? Gee...I guess they never invented sound amplifier listening dishes that can block out noises to concentrate on specific things like a wave huh?
