MDR-1000X Headband Cracks
I have had my MDR-1000X headphones for a month and a half, and used them only 2 times. Last week I noticed a small crack on the left side of the headband where it meets the left side ear cup.

Sony MDR-1000x broke < 3 months - not sure what to do
This was first time I have spent $400 on headphones (yeah, I know - small change for some of you). I noticed last week there is a crack around the joint that it folds up to go into the carrying case: Cracked Headphone
I'm not sure how it happened as I have been very gentle with them. A quick google shows that this has been a problem that others have had (some cracking in just a few weeks).

Great sound quality and features; bad build quality; horrible Sony customer support
Just after a month and a half of regular use, I got a stress fracture on the plastic on the inside of the headband, right at the hinge of the left speaker. Again, this happend just by me using them regularly at work for a month and a half. I cared very well for the headset, always put them away on the case, never dropped, etc. but still the plastic broke right at the hinge.

Buyer Beware: It looks like the Sony MDR-1000X has a build/materials issue
Unfortunately, it has come to light as more users put in a bunch of listening time that it may have a big build quality problem. The plastic in the arms that attach the ear cups to the headband is prone to cracking under normal use conditions.
