UNSUCCESSFUL SEARCH BY SCOTLAND YARD
London, Aug. 20. — Scotland Yard to-day set a precedent by publishing the photograp of a 'wanted' man. Hei s 'Mr. C.' — a tattooed, maniacal killer who has been terrorising women and eluding for two months the net spread all over Britain. He is described as being about 26 years old, and persuasive with women, reminiscent of Neville Heath, the slayer of two women in 1946.

'Mr. C.' is wanted for a series of assaults on women and the murder of a Danish domestic servant in a London suburb. Scotland Yard earlier refused to publish his photograph as its publication might prejudice the prosecution's case. That was the reason it gave in Heath's case when a public outcry followed the Yard's refusal to issue. Heath's photograph after the first murder.

Scotland Yard has now justified its action, because 24-year-old Joan Lodge identified as 'Mr. C.' the man who enticed her into a house, attacked her, 'went mad' and tied her to a bed where she remained trussed for 24 hours before breaking her bonds and reporting to the police. 'Mr. C.' was nearly caught a fortnight ago when he visited a tattooist and had the tattoo 'Death before dishonour,' converted into a snake design.

The Hertfordshire police issued a general alarm to-day following a report that a man had offered to sell a pair of nylon stockings to a young woman in Welwyn. ('Mr. C,' whose photograph appeared in the evening newspapers, is alleged to have enticed Joan Lodge into a house by offering to sell her nylons).

The police chased and arrested a man answering the description of "Mr. C," who had been eluding the police of Britain for the last two months. A caretaker found him sleeping in a schoolroom in Grays Inn. The man ran when the caretaker challenged him, but a policeman chased and caught him.

John Henry Cole (28) appeared in Greenwich Police Court yesterday, charged with rape and robbery. COLE is '"The Tattooed Man arrested last Friday night by Scotland Yard men searching for "Mr. C.," known as the "Moonmad Killer."

"Mr. C." is wanted in connection with the murder last year of a Danish domestic servant and is believed to have been responsible for a series of attacks on women since then. Cole was handcuffed, struggled with detectives all the time in the court and continually sobbed and whimpered.

Police half-carried him from the court when he was remanded until September 3. Chief - Inspector Fabian said in evidence that Cole had stated: "I adn.it I did the job." Cole interrupted Insp. Fabian's evidence and shouted: "You - lia; I didn't say anything of the sort; why don't they take these things off me."

When the magistrate's clerk asked Cole if he had anything to say, he replied, sobbing: "I didn't say that. Why don't they take these things off my hands."

LONDON, October 22.-John Henry Cole (28) was found guilty at the Old Bailey today on nine charges of robbery and rape. "He was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

Associated Press said Cole would go down in Scotland Yard records as the "moon maniac."
During the search for the then unknown man who was attacking women' in or near London,
detectives noticed the attacks came when the moon was in the first or last phase.
