Marvel's 'The Punisher' Netflix Series Gets Its First Major Casting In Ben Barnes

TVLine reports that Ben Barnes (Westworld, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian) will face off against Jon Bernthal as a series regular and probable villain in the upcoming The Punisher series.

According to the same scoop from TVLine, one hefty rumor is pegging Barnes as Bobby Saint, a character NOT derived from the vast comic pantheon, but rather the foolhardy son of a crime lord from the best forgotten and critically maligned 2004 Punisher film.

Intressant, blir nog bra ska bli intressant ju mer info man får. Tror ni han kommer nämnas i Luke cage?

Kanske en cameo? Daredevil lär ju dyka upp i denna, kanske hela gänget ?

Punisher was one of the most talked about aspects of the season and viewers wanted to see more of the character as soon as possible.

This is why it was no surprise when Netflix and Marvel announced that a full season of The Punisher had been ordered by the streaming service. At the time there was no indication to when the series would debut, but rumors indicated a possible 2017 release. That seems more likely with Bernthal properly starting production on the series – and now, he has been joined by a familiar Daredevil cast member on-set.

FirstLook (via MCUExchange) has released new photos from the set of The Punisher that show Deborah Ann Woll reprising her role as Karen Page for the spin-off series.

Karen and Frank developed a very close relationship over the course of season 2 of Daredevil, so it should not be a shock to see her be one of potentially many familiar faces making an appearance on the show. Karen was the one that went to bat for Frank and tried to prove his innocence, which led to Frank having to save her life. The two seemed to develop a strong connection that should continue here, and should solidify the timeline of the series for anybody still wondering.

Marvel confirms three more for The Punisher Cast

As production is in full swing on Marvel’s The Punisher for Netflix, Marvel Entertainment has revealed three more cast members that will be joining Jon Bernthal in the series, including the previously-reported Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia). Barnes will play Billy Russo, Frank’s Castle’s best friend from his days in the Special Forces who runs a successful private military corporation called “Anvil;” Ebon Moss-Bachrach (“Girls”) will play Micro, a former NSA analyst whose secrets may be of great value to Frank Castle and everyone around them; and Amber Rose Revah (Indian Summers, Son of God) joins as Dinah Madani; a highly-trained sophisticated Homeland Security agent who is vexed by the Punisher.

Fans will no doubt recognize the names Billy Russo and Micro as the two are integral characters to The Punisher in the pages of Marvel Comics with Billy Russo being the real name of villain Jigsaw and Micro serving as his weapons supplier for many years.

Filmen The Punisher (2004) är faktiskt rätt bra, eller i varje fall underhållande. Hade från början ingen aning om att den var baserad på en serietidning men kan nu i efterhand förstå det med alla överdrivna skurkar, alla med en unik stil och catchigt namn, som Frank Castle måste kämpa mot. Den "Punisher" vi fick se i Daredevil imponerade mig däremot inte. Tyckte den delen var helt klart sämst med säsong 2 -- och då var det en dålig och ojämn säsong i allmänhet. Jon Bernthal är heller inte en särskilt bra skådespelare.

Men det som förvånar mig lite är att de har Ben Barnes i rollen som Billy Russo. Inte för att jag vet vem Billy Russo är, ska tydligen vara en (f.d.) vän till Frank eller något. Men Billy Russo är också skurken Jigsaw och då jag googlade namnet blev jag alldeles chockad; Jigsaw har hela ansiktet sönderskuret! Ska de verkligen anlita Ben Barnes, en otroligt stilig man med vackert ansikte, herregud, det räcker inte, han personifierar ju i princip "tall, dark and handsome" (med undantaget att han är lite späd kanske) -- det blir ju fullkomligt bisarrt att ha honom i rollen som Jigsaw. Nu kanske Barnes kan vara lite mer än bara en "pretty boy", men jag tvivlar på det. . Bernthal ser ju i varje fall brutal ut; ska han ställas emot en lång snygging vars enda defekt är en massa ärr i ansiktet? Barnes känns alldeles för dekadent och aristokratiskt för rollen (jag har svårt att se honom som någonting annat än Dorian Gray). Förhoppningsvis gör de något intressant av det hela. Men en pretty-boy-gone-bad verkar lite off i sammanhanget.

NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES 'MARVEL'S THE PUNISHER' ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL CAST MEMBERS


Daniel Webber (“11.22.63”) has been cast as Lewis Walcott, a young veteran who has had a difficult time re-assimilating into Civilian Society.

Jason R. Moore (“A Lonely Place for Dying”) joins as Curtis Hoyle, a friend of Frank Castle’s and one of the few people who knows he is alive.

Paul Schulze (“Nurse Jackie”) will play Rawlins, a high-ranking member of the CIA whose operations in Afghanistan intersect with Frank Castle.

Jaime Ray Newman (“Bates Motel”) plays Sarah Lieberman, Micro’s wife (played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach) whose marriage has made her life far more complicated.

Michael Nathanson (“The Knick,” “Wolf of Wall Street”) has been cast as Sam Stein, a Homeland agent who is challenged by his partnership with Dinah (Amber Rose Revah).
