"so long as"

Ja, tidigare bara hört och sett "as long as" i betydelsen "så länge som" och trott att det itne fanns nåt alternativ. Möjligtvis att jag hört "so long as" och trott att det är svengelska. Men på sistone har jag stött på det mer och börjar misstänka att även denna formulering är engelska.

Hur står det till?

Intressant egentligen, jag har hört båda men aldrig riktigt funderat på vad som gäller när och varför.

Det verkar dock som att båda är "ok" att använda, folk fattar ju vad man menar. Hittade dock detta:

"You can stay here as long as you are alive." You are alive now, and your permission to stay here will last "as long as" the stipulated condition (being alive) continues. The idea is to match up the timeframes of the two things: the timeframe for staying here is now make to be the same as the timeframe of being alive.

"You can stay here so long as you do not serve alcohol on the premises."

Here, we are not lining up the timeframe of staying here to another condition. Instead, if the stated condition (serving alcohol) ever occurs, then the permissive use will end. We are just saying that the permitted use may continue until some condition springs up in the future.

Jag tror inte att det är någon bestämd regel, men det låter ju hyfsat rimligt.

EDIT: För att förtydliga svaret på din fråga: Det är absolut engelska, inte "svengelska". Topic kanske inte är hur och när man ska använda det, men vafan - det är ju lite intressant i alla fall!
