Peter Soderqvist: BBC is asking the World; Should we be running for the hills?
Robert D. Hare is describing an interspecies predator that kills, or kisses without a flinch, who knows the words, but not the music, who act without guilt or remorse, and when it comes to conscience he hasn’t the faintest clue, so he is destroying life everywhere without care!
"The first one I met at a maximum security prison in Canada stared at me so hard I felt like I was being pushed up against the wall," he said.
"Then he got a knife out and was moving it around in front of me."I didn't know what I was getting myself into." And he has been "into it" for the past 25 years. But you would never guess this diminutive, unassuming man has been in contact with real life Hannibal Lecters.

Practice Makes Perfect
Hare consulted with Nicole Kidman on the movie Malice. She wanted to let the audience know, early in the film, that she was not the sweet, warm person she appeared to be. He gave her the following scene: "You're walking down the street and come across an accident at the corner.
A young child has been struck by a car and is lying in a pool of blood. You walk up to the accident site, look briefly at the child, and then focus at the grief-stricken mother. After a few minutes of careful scrutiny, you walk back to your apartment, go into the bathroom, stand in front of the mirror, and practice mimicking the facial expressions and body language of the mother."
"They can learn to use ordinary words and to reproduce the pantomime of feeling, but the feeling itself does not come to pass."
So is he describing your boss?
They interview well, they get into organizations by using people as pawns, sweet talking patrons and creating conflict.
"I don't see any difference between the people I meet in prison and those in business," he added.
So should we be running for the hills?
